Sports attire. The first segment. It's some stupid dance that we did and everyone felt it was pretty silly. The whole thing was smile, smile and smile. Smile again.. ( Jacky Cheung )

And in between there was the usual self-intro and Q and A session.

Aliens. The prize was a sash and a bottle of red wine.
Pretty sad. The real prize is the title isn't it?

I guess this is the best picture i can find of myself. The rest of the pics make-up too thick already. But make-up..wah..really make your skin look like flawless. Not bad not bad. Beside me is Catherine, one of the organisers.

Relieved that it's all over and it was a pleasant experience. Really some bonding between all the pageant guys. This will definitely be the last pageant for me. One time is great but one time is enough.

Powerbook

And finally, the advent of my laptop. My powerbook.

The LCD screen of my digicam has, unfortunately broken down, which means you won't get a glimpse of my Mac powerbook as well as the pictures of my Hall 13 dinner and dance.

Things have gotten a little better after my shock semi-final lost in a recent KTV competition that I tok part in 2 weeks ago. It is this 90s Chinese Songs KTV competition joint organised by IMM and Capital Music 93.3, is that how you call it? It is not publicized anywhere that we actually can see, but still about 100 plus people signed up for it and I went through the audition round to get into the semi-final stage. The 1st prize is a staggering 5000 bucks and 2000 bucks worth of prizes. Now you know why I signed up for it.

Well in the end, during the actual thing I forgot my lyrics, went off-key in the chorus, something that is pretty impossible given my own high standards. That wasn't supposed to be. I was there to nick the 5000 bucks. It's not like the rest of the contestants were fantastic..But still that was a wake up call to my highly inflated ego. I told myself never am I gonna fuck it up so badly for any related competitions again.

I'm totally loving my powerbook. Please pass me any Mac software and lend me if you have?

I'll try to bounce back from the semi-final exit and give a much more assured vocal performance this coming saturday outside Ngee Ann City which is Taka. It's gonna be like some busking thing so if you happen to be trotting along Orchard, you can come pop by and give ur jeers.
Cheers.

What Went On

3 weeks in NTU gone. Stories plenty. Bitching plenty. Homework not really.

Last week, I was voted into the Photo-videographic Society( PVS ) main committee as publicity chair. Not that it's difficult, only two people ran for the post. The fact is the points I earn from this can virtually ensure my second year in hostel.

I'm also doing things for Nanyang Chronicle which is an NTU newspaper that finds its way not only in NTU but also the PM and cabinet ministers' office. I'm officially in business management but I'll do some writing as well.

I am in my hall's pageant which means I do not have to pay for my hall's dinner and dance. It was quite a controversial decision that I was even in this because apparently my og couldn't decide which person to send for the pageant, which then resulted in 2 people going for it. He's a damm nice guy of course, a Dewei-look-alike, that explains everything. The event is this coming friday.

I also signed up for every single inter-block game that's gonna happen and I volunteered my services for my hall's choir, jam band and sing 'n' strum.

I'm considering how to plan rock-climbing into my packed schedule.

Academically, there haven't been much things to do besides reading, surfing net and discussing projects. There's this one course I hate though which is CS106 : Speech and Presentation. Sounds like my forte. I had 6 top 3 finishes in national level oratorical and story-telling competitions in secondary school, champion every year in my primary school, went for umpteen emceeing, cross-talk and other speech performances in the past. I'm hao-lianing again.

But what we had for this course is this incompetent speech teacher who can't give a proper speech himself. No lesson plans. Nothing. Every lesson was just doing speeches and speehes. God knows how we're gonna improve. I got a bad score for my first grading and it's counted for 10% of the whole course. This early in the term. So I say thank you Mr. S********.

School is going quite well. I now have a decent click/clique?(never really know how to spell this word) in my school and we're sort of a very AA group. It comprises of me, Wei Xin, Luqman, Kevin, Gabriel (who's not in this pic ) and Nicholas who happens to be a model and very much into the entertainment industry.

I like this pic. Wei Xin( with the cap on) in the pic looks mysteriously like the actor in Mysterious Skin. Kevin holding the cigarette in a damm cool way. Aisha looking bored and Luqman being luqman.

My CS og in full force supporting our 2 OGLs, Colin and Cheryl who are both wearing make-up and white. It was an annual CS production which I felt was OK.

Overall I had comments by people that I look like I was from Jurong JC ( no disrespect here ), Ah-beng, poser, arrogant, friendly, enthu, trying too hard to be popular, cheater, AA, AP...

The list goes on. It suits me fine. Things are looking interesting. Let's see how it goes.

Feel

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I wanna drown myself in sorrow, dive into a swimming pool of Chivas. When the bloody alcohol seeps into my nose, I will open my eyes and more alcohol gets into my brain. Then I will be fully intoxicated. When my feet finally touches the tiles at the bottom, the tiles cut my feet and blood spills. The brilliant mix of blood and alcohol slowly swirls up from below. Though the alcohol blinds my eyes, i position my mouth to where the blood goes such that i swallow alcohol and blood, such that the blood I lost quickly becomes the blood I drink. Thus a circulatory system.

I get lost in this campus labyrinth. The endless walks become sweat that damps and further weighs down my already loose jeans. The campus community reminds me of the neighbourhood I always dream about. Like the only headlights on a lightless road, the surroundings are dark and hideous, I can only follow what I see, what I trust and my intution.

Then I get lonely again. The door is open but there are no visitors.

Time to head for the exit sign.

Start

Lectures and tutorials 9 a.m. thru 2:30 p.m, a short break in between, then another lecture from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30p.m. Slept at 4 the night before. Going to sleep at 4 tonight.

Jogged the night before. Soccer just now. Revising reading materials and making notes from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. I think I'm getting used to this life.

Years after the boy wasn't given an english name, he sought out making his chinese name the most well-known name in school. He did. Teachers called his name more often than Shane or Mandy. His peers didn't talk to Johns or Jackys. His chinese name could be heard everywhere in school. The staff whispered his name softly in his presence, the canteen vendors offered him extra portions of food without extra charge. The principal mentioned his name 37 times during assembly in his entire 6 year stay in the school. His mother went on stage a record 42 times to present academic, sports and cultural prizes to her own son. He had lipstick smeared all over his cheeks and he hated it.

Still the little boy wasn't satisfied. The little boy was not pleased to hear people mis-pronouncing his chinese name.
His only name.

He cried on the night of the eve of the first day of secondary school. He fought the fluid that burst out vehemently from his eyes. No he didn't have cornea ulcer. He had perfect eyesight. The perfection was not enough for the fluid to cloud his vision and tame his puerile emotions. He was afterall just a kid with no english name. A little boy's heart in a little boy's frame.

He was apprehensive of a new start. A place of uncertainty. A place with no more familiar faces. He was too afraid to tell people he did not have an english name, he didn't want to prove himself all over again, he no longer craved for the attention that he had in the past.

In the end, his mother never made it on stage again. The principal mentioned his name in assembly at most 3 times. People confuse his chinese name with other chinese names. His chinese name was just but another chinese name.

He is currently searching for an english name.
