Paradise Now

Like what RJ said (and congrats to u RJ), not the one in Over the Hedge, its a little below expectations given my lofty hopes for the movie. Like such stories, a little tale of 2 suicide bombers, living in constant oppression and humiliation, signed up to be martyrs, fight their inner demons, we all know the story. It is a simple story, nothing exceptional, it's a great film because someone actually made the effort to start writing a story like that and film it.

It probably works better as a documentary. The Arab-Israeli conflict is the greater story. The other stories beneath it are just sub-plots. The buildings, the life behind the plot in the movie is the greater story.

Thats all. Late for a few weeks this post. Didn't turn out the way I want to write it but nevermind. And I will want to be an Arab in my next life. Super handsome. Like Naufal.

Casablanca

Here's looking at you, kid.
The charismatic Humphrey Bogart strikes the greatest impression in this classic, landmark film in cinematic history. Forgotten love in Nazi-occupied France, the nostalgia of the war-ridden times, dangerous but precious, where moments are defined by seconds and not years. The intrumental sounds of 'As Times Goes By' by Max Steiner resonates in my head. The gaze of the protagonist, Rick, so casual yet so intense. Comfortably, I slip into a coma between dreams, the past and the future. The music brings me there, the twirling smoke, the teary eyes, the poignant and soft voices whispering in my ears.

A fairy tale with no faries or magic potions. But with all sense of practicality. Within all the deception, corruption and violence, to find and create a little fairy tale that all of us love and identify with is endearing. A little romance, a glass of shining red wine amidst this crazy world brings back a little smile. A smile that means many things.

Here's looking at you, kid.

Guest blogging with Faney babes & gaoster

It's 3.21pm, we're at Brewerkz. I think Koay is gonna KO anytime soon, he just mentioned going to Hotel 81 to KO for 2 hours. (We're supposed to go shop for his brand new guitar after the minor booze session.) It's nice meeting up with my 2 friends from hall after a long absence. Faney lost weight, Koay looks.. like a good boy for once. Tho it's been sometime since we've met, I must say we really seem to pick up as tho we've met yesterday. The usual topics crop up; cool gang of Hall 13, FOC, exam resutls, relationships. Something new here tho, Koay and me are going on a world domination backpacking trip. First stop: Cambodia.

Everybody's a changed man, Koay's a good boy and Faney is a bloody family man. I'm a changed man too, I got new comments that I look 16. Koay's splattered on the table now, Faney's msging(I bet his gf), and I'm still sober enough to type. That's cos i downed only 2 pints, they did 3. I'll be looking forward to tonight's jamming, 2 half gone f***s whacking their hearts out in their ever cool Hall 13.

Mr.K

Awakened by a certain phonecall yesterday morning. Those who grew up in Red Swastika School probably knew Madam Thor. The phonecall then the first stint at relief teaching. I knew handling primary ones and twos would be tough but I had to experience it for myself. I called fellow relief teacher Ng Soon Tat for advice on the likely scenarios that I was likely to encounter. The general office obviously excited by a young, fresh and handsome new relief teacher asked me whether I do tuition. Which, of course, I kindly gave my number to. Hopefully more quick cash and assignments.

I always knew there will be some trouble for kids calling my name. Mr.Koay just doesn't sound right and obviously not the name to win over these kids. Must leave no room for them to make fun of. So I requested to be addressed as Mr.K. Like some agent in your James Bond movie. F thought 'Sir' would be more me which I agree but Red Swastika was a world of misters, misses and madams.

But why am I talking about such trivial stuff.

You know they always like to do pictorial histories of celebrities' hairstyles. Brad Pitt in particular.

Here's one more.

Which is your favourite?
