Casablanca

Here's looking at you, kid.
The charismatic Humphrey Bogart strikes the greatest impression in this classic, landmark film in cinematic history. Forgotten love in Nazi-occupied France, the nostalgia of the war-ridden times, dangerous but precious, where moments are defined by seconds and not years. The intrumental sounds of 'As Times Goes By' by Max Steiner resonates in my head. The gaze of the protagonist, Rick, so casual yet so intense. Comfortably, I slip into a coma between dreams, the past and the future. The music brings me there, the twirling smoke, the teary eyes, the poignant and soft voices whispering in my ears.
A fairy tale with no faries or magic potions. But with all sense of practicality. Within all the deception, corruption and violence, to find and create a little fairy tale that all of us love and identify with is endearing. A little romance, a glass of shining red wine amidst this crazy world brings back a little smile. A smile that means many things.
Here's looking at you, kid.
