White and Dark meat

This sounds kinda lame but just bear with it.

I'm a big fan of fried chicken and pimples are also great fans of me. So it goes on, this love affair. I've almost mastered the art of chicken eating. I just like eating chicken very much.
Thigh meat, the wing, breast meat, the drumstick, the ribs.

Yeah, usually I'll order drumstick meat for chicken rice. Drumsticks are a definite no-no for KFCs cos it's just too little in quantity. If I could, I'll get thigh meat for KFC. Both of them, i mean if you're not the glutton that go for the brilliant 3-piece meal.

If you're someone normal, you'll probably agree with me and give the thumbs up to thigh meat rather than say breast meat. Breast meat is just bland and hard to chew and... it kinda just digests slower in your stomach and it's like you're eating just meat and not chicken. Thigh meat is much more tender, easier to chew, succulent and much better taste overall. Wing and drumsticks are fine but it's not meant to fill the tummy. Ribs... i dunno, maybe somewhere in between?

The hawkers and the food sellers. They know it. They know what's the good stuff. Chicken drumstick rice or duck drumstick rice, they are all charged at a higher price. Sometimes they are just overpriced.

Since I'm in the States now, I just found out something interesting, maybe just to me. Because, people here charge such meat like thigh, wing and drumstick at a lower price. They're called the dark meat. White meat is everything else. And there is a certain history to this.

Pre-Lincoln days, the days where blacks were slaves and whites were all the heroes, there has to be some sort of a clear distinction. So, the chicken was divided. The whites get to eat the main chicken, which is the breast meat, where it looks clean and white. The slaves get the parts of the chicken, the thighs, drum, wing that could be easily removed by just twisting the chicken. The dark meat that is.

It's great and it's kinda stupid I feel that the Americans dunno what's really best for them. I'll go with dark meat anytime. I am currently in Hollywood, LA. See ya.

San Fran Part 1

I'm at San Francisco for about 3 days now. It's cool. There's so many things to talk about, I dunno where to start. Ok, here we go.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Our first stop was at Stanford University, there it is. It's massive and it oozes with architectural beauty and intellectual aura surrounding the buildings. Went into the bookstore to get souveniers and they've just about everything. From, sweaters, chess sets, frisbees, teddy bears, Ipods, pencil cases all with Stanford as the brand name. The basketball jerseys were quite cool and is sponsered and endorsed by Nike.

Because there are so many damm colleges in the US, sports competitions are so damm fun in the States. Basketball matches are aired live on the TV sets, you'll probably see your own schoolmates playing on TV. Yea, college basketball 24/7 on the TV set at my friend's place. That explains the sporting culture they have in the States, kids can focus on their sporting careers and have their fair share of fame that'll encourage them to do better. Unlike Singapore..

It's pretty dark here. That's already the second day. We're at some touristy site called the Fisherman's Wharf. Sounds familiar to Fisherman's village at pasir ris but it's very different. Nothing much actually. Beside me is Weisheng, minxiu's friend at Stanford doing his Masters. He kinda looks like James Lye and he is just a really nice and cool person. An Old RI boy and a Manchester United fan, haha, there you go. He just drives us around, bring us to the different places and keep us company. As I'm blogging here, he just left for his own holidays, doing some skiing. A great start to this trip has to be credited for his unmatched hospitality.

So you realised that California is not just about Arnie but it's also about driving and driving. Everything and everywhere is literally miles apart, so forgive me for being bo liao and narcissist for this.

Lucky we have minxiu's Ipod along the way, so we still do some familiar Asian songs along the freeway.

The thing that strike me most is about staying abroad and living in a foreign land. When I see both weisheng and minxiu, I see yea, the confidence, the independence. They have probably really lived life. It's hard to describe. Y'know.

Japan Hour

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
???miles up in the sky.

So here I am in Japan for the very first time. Currently at this internet kiosk that offers broadband services as well as shower rooms and day rooms for passengers transiting in Japan to take a nap, a bath or some sorts. I'm probably pretty excited, the thought of my mere presence in a foreign land is amazing.

Sometimes I will still think of myself as a child wearing adult clothes and behaving perhaps 10 years older. I feel that sometimes I haven't really grown up, I'm just playing a role as a young adult with the social and moral obligations. I feel I've really stepped into the real world, looking at things, people in a very different way, not really sure what i'm saying here.

I'm not fazed by too many things now, not like what a young kid will think of, fascinated with everything new they see. But then again, I'm do fascinated by things, like the take-off of the airplane, like the scenery from up above the sky.. It's lovely. Perhaps it's the costumes I wear again... not much time left.

Continued here at San Fran back from Tokyo..The internet kiosk limited me to just 30 min of usage, that explains the abrupt end.. The sunset pictures were great. Too much time for comfort like spring in Chicago, we happily took pictures from the airport, land of the setting sun.

Narita's airport had porn dvds selling at 70plus Singapore dollars which were really atrocious. The food was extremely ex too man, had some curry with rice for 10plus Sing dollars.. It was quite funny though ordering food from a Japanese restaurant for the very first time..

Being the bad son I am, I think going overseas with friends is one hell lot better than going with parents, it's a very different feeling. The obligations thingey that I was referring to previously. This trip is starting to look great, really. Seeing the world and a stepping stone for me to understand about responsiblity and independence, imagining myself to be a foreign student, taking on the world with nothing but myself.

Anyway, it's not as cold as I thought out to be just yet, stay tuned for my next post. Peace.

Zen hearbreak

The recently concluded IT fair at Suntec City left me licking the wounds of my sorry luck.

Rewind two hours before, I was busy squeezing myself past the human traffic at the IT fair with no objective to buy anything. A friend's girlfriend was working as a Zen Micro girl, which is just carrying that mp3player around, wearing short skirts and pose for pictures. They are paid a meaty share of 200dollars a day by Creative Technologies. Check that out.

You never know that winning a lucky draw is possible until you've really won it. That is true. Just except for my case. You see, I was just a hair's inch from nicking a cool 169 dollars Creative mp3player when suddenly, I was forced to answer a question for me to claim my prize.

Wait a minute, I thought usually when your name is picked up from a list of so many other names, you are already worthy of the prize. No man. I thought of those saturday nights with those econ minimart variety shows which always starred Chen Shu-cheng. Your names get picked, you answer a simple question, then you claim the prize.

My question was tough cos I did not listen to what the presenters were talking about. Everyone was trying to grab the free T-shirts and umbrellas that rained down from the stage, bias directed to the ladies. You guessed it, some lousy male presenter who think he's cute and who thinks he has sex appeal.

The crowd was selfish when I searched high and low for prompting. Bloody selfish Singaporeans. I did the wrong answer, walked off the stage in sheer disgust, collected a consolation prize. ( T-shirt that was thrown around ) That delighted the crowd cos it improved their chances slighly and by the time I left the stage, the whole crowd knew the answer. I ended up as the last person to know the answer.

I won the lucky draw but I did not take the prize home. I was quite cool with the whole thing , my friends felt sore but in the end, I was truly disappointed with people who refuse to be gracious and offer a helping hand when someone needed it most.

Count on them, Singapore!

A short anecdote

It was another day in Kosmi's life.

A simple morning where the sequence of events that followed immediately after he woke up went by too smoothly. So much so that it seemed unnatural.

Kosmi wasn't too bothered about it. He had an agenda. The agenda was to be less pissed with this world he lives in, which may be different from the world we live in, whichever way you put it.

Kosmi leaves things to the last minute because he doesn't have an organiser. An organiser where you pen down the events that's gonna happen next in your life. He doesn't even have a pen.
See, Kosmi is a funny person. He stares into the blank TV screen for no apparent reason and he brushes his teeth on his bed. He makes funny noises when he's alone, like the ignition of a motorcycle engine, like saying 'ah' while holding his breath for as long as possible; the volume increasing exponentially towards the end.

Yes, that very day after the events that followed, after he bathed and he powdered and put on perfume, he was ready to step out of his place. The events that are going to follow thereafter was not to be expected.

After 10 storeys down the stairs and a hundred and forty-seven footsteps away from his residence, Kosmi realised he left a part of him back up. Slowly, he felt that he was getting quite pissed. Slowly, he calmed himself down and convinced himself to retrieve that part of him he left in his house.

Kosmi was pleased that he was not that pissed with the world afterall. He got back together and step out of his place for the second time, thinking that the events that followed was to be expected and how wrong he was.

He walked to the bus stop at a comfortable speed. Too comfortable for you and me. He didn't know whether it was comfortable, he just felt comfortable.
The instance the sole of his right foot was 1cm off the ground and twenty-one steps away from the bus stop, bus 56 drove past him in a equally, almost intentionally comfortable speed, hopping away like a little girl teasing others with the lollipop that some stranger gave to her which she will eventually eat it and develop tooth decay 3 years on.

Kosmi was that little boy watching, envious but helpless.

He felt that anger rising again. The world was pissing him off again. Just when he was about to scold fuck, he remembered his agenda. He convinced himself it was no big deal waiting for another bus. He convinced himself not to fret about his forgetfulness which led to time wastage and resulted in the mess he was in. He succeeded.

Kosmi later hopped on to another bus 22 5 min later.

Bus 22 somehow caught up with the bus 56 for no reason. Kosmi alighted and boarded.
He was a happy man and he truly got less pissed with the world after that incident.

Talk about movies

Cinewhore I am not. But like D, I've watched too many movies in the month of February.
So that makes me a cineslut.

Let me see,
I've watched : The Aviator
Hotel Rwanda
Finding Neverland
Million Dollar Baby
A Very Long Engagement
Closer
Ray
Team America : World Police
My Life As A Dog

Wow. Can you beat that? Non-cinewhores?

Actually I'm just bored and I can't think of anything to post.

I'm currently listening to Jamie Cullum. You should too.

I'm currently reading Dalai Lama's Path to Tranquility. Hmm.

Currently in a healing process, the mind, soul and body.

Fictitious worlds let loose once in a while.

The above mentioned movies are mainstream movies I guess. Oscar nominated mainstream movies.
Some people tell me my movie taste sucks. I couldn't agree more. I am amazed to overhear a conversation about Jack Neo's I do I do and how good it was, how hilarious it was. I've people telling me Alien Vs Predator was highly entertaining and worth every 8.50. Some other friend told me that Million Dollar Baby sucked big time and didn't knew what Morgan Freeman was mumbling about, and there weren't subtitles.

My good friend in camp never forgave me when I suggested he watch Matchstick Man rather than Rundown by the Rock. He vowed never to heed movie advice from me again, sadly.
I feel quite bad about wasting my friend's money really, and I apologised profusely.

I thought maybe Hotel Rwanda should be nomintaed for best picture instead of Ray.

I wished I could take Natalie Portman home.

I liked none of the kids in Finding Neverland. Just Kate Winslet.

Million Dollar Baby was probably the best of them all but The Aviator was a real cinema adventure.

A Very Long Engagement had strong supporting actresses in the form of Jodie Foster and Monica Belluci, both speaking French.

But what one person thinks doesn't really matter.

It's what the others think.

Spoling myself

Last sunday was terrific. Family day with my cousin's family. It was my little cousin's 13th birthday and the day after, my elder cousin did fairly well in his O levels with 11 pts. Met his expectations and so proud of him.

It was quality time spent. But that's another story.

Currently, I have about, let's see, I've about 6 pairs of workable shoes. Not torn, not battered and working fine. If not, I have 8 pairs of shoes.

Out of the 6 working pairs, 1 is a black leather meant for formal purposes, 1 is a Timberland brown leather for another type of occasion. Then comes 2 Adidas shoes, one bright orange and one yellow. 1 Solomon pair and 1 Mizuno acquired courtesy of SAF credits.

I spotted 2 nice shoes of the same design that will fit perfectly with my new Levi's jeans. It's really cool. It's ok if you dun like it, but just care to tell me which is nicer. Thanks. Leave your comments.
