Singapore Dreaming by Colin Goh and wife is a decent attempt to capture the struggles of the average Singaporean and how success is painted like a masterpiece in everyone's eyes right from the start of their existence. Melodramatic at some point but somehow it works for me because I'm in some melodrama myself. The soap operas that housewives glue their eyes on everyday got them to believe that life is one big drama and it spreads like a plague within the family, and then the external family. Ficticious characters are really just real life examples that story tellers or filmmakers encountered. It got me to think that whatever we have watched, be it movies or TV, is not just some scriptwriter's imagination, no matter how extreme or unbelievable they might be. We are all in some sort of shit somehow. You may think that your shit is relative to your own problems somehow and we are on level terms but it is always easier to illuminate your own problems such that they may outshine others.
